MINUTES Saturday, July 13, 2024 Via Zoom 10:00 a.m.
Call to Order – The meeting was called to order by Mary Minnick, Chair at 10:04 a.m.
a. Mary Minnick, Chair led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
b. In addition, Mark Everhart, Lake County read the Land Acknowledgment Statement.
2. Guest Speakers
a. Tom Bratton, Northern Michigan Representative for the Elissa Slotkin Campaign, talked about distributing campaign yard signs to all the county party offices. In addition, he highlighted the opportunity to host a house party in support of Elissa Slotkin. Tom Bratton also encouraged everyone to join Elissa’s social media.
b. Michael Lynch, Candidate for 2nd Congressional District. Michael talked about his appearance at the Mecosta Dems booth at the Mecosta County Fair and that he is scheduled to debate John Moolenaar Tuesday at 7 pm at the Isabella RSD; that is if Moolenaar shows up. 6. It was moved by John Helge, Manistee County and seconded by Michael Lynch, Gratiot County to ACCEPT THE AGENDA AS PRESENTED. MOTION CARRIED.
7. There were no Minutes of the Previous Meeting, hence approval of the Minutes was tabled until the Minutes of the June Meeting could be presented.
8. Chair’s Report Mary Minnick, Chair stated because of time constraints, her Chair’s Report could be found on the 2nd Congressional District Website https://www.michigan2nddemocrats.com/. She did note there were a lot of Democrats at Texas Hold ‘em as they were even able to hand out signs there.
9. Vice Chair’s Report John Helge Vice Chair’s report could also be found on the website.
10. Treasurer’s Report Dallas Dean, Treasurer Newaygo County reported the balances of the Federal, State, Administrative, and Texas Hold ‘em Accounts. The State Account had a balance of $2,793.86 the Administrative Account had a balance of $28.55, the Federal Account had a balance of $12,210.19 and the Texas Hold’em had a balance of $8,332.72. It was moved by Ed Miller, Mason County and seconded by Lynn Cavazos, Oceana County TO ACCEPT THE FINANCE REPORT AND TO PAY ALL BILLS. MOTION CARRIED.
11. Secretary’s Report Peggy Raddatz, Secretary Manistee County stated she had received no correspondence.
12. Committee Reports
a. Rules and Bylaws Committee – Dallas Dean, Newaygo County, Committee Chair stated there was no report at this time.
b. Finance and Fundraising Committee – Dallas Dean, Newaygo County, Committee Chair stated one hundred two requests for sponsorships and donations to the Gala had gone out. It was moved by John Helge and seconded by Peggy Raddatz, both of Manistee County to DONATE $100 TO THE PHILANTHROPIST FROM MINNESOTA WHO WAS DISTRIBUTING BUMPER STICKERS FOR FREE. MOTION CARRIED.
c. Candidate Recruitment and Support Committee – Ed Miller, Mason County, Committee Chair stated there was no report at this time.
d. Political and 2nd CD Party Organizing Committee – Cathy Willermet, Isabella County stated there was no report at this time.
e. Communications Committee – Mary Minnick, Lake County, Committee Chair reported she had been working on the 2nd CD Website and the 2nd CD FB page receives 20 new followers each week.
f. Policy and Resolution Committee – John Helge, Manistee County stated there was no report at this time. He did state the date of the next 2nd CD Meeting was the same date as a required County Party Convention.
g. Audit Committee – Mark Everhart, Lake County stated there was no report at this time.
13. Unfinished Business Mary Minnick reminded members to invite their State Candidates to the August 10th 2nd CD meeting. She cautioned only those candidates in attendance would receive a contribution.
14. New Business – Mary Minnick, Chair stated as soon as she receives Biden signs, she will distribute to County Party offices. GOOD AND WELFARE Dallas Dean shared he had attended the President Biden rally in Detroit and the President didn’t make any gaffs. Also, he reminded everyone that President Biden is our nominee for a variety of DNC, and MDP rules. ADJOURNMENT
15. Adjournment The agenda was completed. Therefore, Mary Minnick, Chair declared the meeting adjourned at 11:17 am.
