Chairs Report August 12, 2023
On July 10th, I met Dallas and Peggy at West Shore Bank to get a notorized letter signed by the three of us for the Blue Wave Gala.
On July 10th, I attended the Rural Caucus meeting from 7pm-9pm.
On July 11th, I was invited to Candidate for U.S. Senate Hill Harper’s announcement event in Grand Rapids, MI. from 7pm-10pm.
On July 11th, I emailed both 2nd CD Candidate Recruitment and support (for candidate) Committee and Political and 2nd CD Party Organizing Committee and requested a zoom meeting on July 18th at 1pm to discuss picnic plans for making a democratic party for Osceola County.
On July 12th, I called Marshall Stern to give him the details of the Blue Wave Gala. He said he would normally charge between $1,300 - $3,500 for an event like this but because he knows us and wants to help our party succeed, he would only ask for $400.00. Which I think is fantastic and let our 2nd CD Treasurer Dallas know about after I hung up with Marshall.
On July 15th, I attended the Barry County Democratic Party's Potluck Picnic. We had a blast!
On July 17th, I attended Montcalm County Democratic Party's picnic in the park and party meeting immediately after. They had Michael Lynch and I do a speech for the group. I spoke on the Gotion Plant while Mike explained what he was going to do when he is elected Congressman for the 2nd CD.
On July 18th, Thank you to Cathy Albro, Chris Bush and Ed Miller for coming to today’s scheduled zoom meeting. We had a lively discussion on how best to organize Osceola County. I read the emails (attached for reference) I had received from Karen Turnbull and Cathy Willermet. We all agree that their point of including influencers who live in Osceola County will be critical to success of our plan. Our original plan had been based on a postcard mailer to people in the county that we could identify as democrats. Karen and Cathy.W. have had long experience with their Osceola neighbors and have developed real relationships with the kind of people who can get this project off the ground. We are going to leave all the details of an organizing event to them. Cathy Albro, and the Rural Caucus, have pledged to provide a mailer for the picnic/ice cream social/event. At our next 2nd CD meeting in person on August 12th at 10:00am, the Candidate Recruitment and Support Committee will present our idea’s to the District Committee Members during their committee report on the agenda. This will give everybody a chance to offer ideas and input into our efforts.
Sincerely,
Mary Minnick

I have reached out to all 6 County Party Chairs who have Counties that are in more then one Congressional District. State Law requires that the two (or more) Congressional Districts are responsible for the nomination of County Election Canvassers. In the past, this has been the responsibility of the individual County Chair. Because of redistricting, this is no longer the case in these Six Counties. I have been in contact with the other Congressional District Chairs and we are trying to make sure the slates get submitted by the September 1st deadline. This is new for me and everyone else but the law is very clear. For anyone who need to read it themselves, click here:
