Information below is from the most current date to the oldest date:
On July 11th I received an update email from Cathy Willermet with more newspaper names and contact information. I have added them below.
On April 21, Chadwick Walenga from the Communication Committee was asked by our party's Secretary Peggy , put together artwork/design and information that was sent to our 544 members in the 2nd CD to remind them of our Ice Cream Social Event that is coming up on May 13th with the time and location. There was a link added to take the reader to the "Mobilize Event" page so they could get additional information if they needed it. I noticed the email did not have the "ActBlue" link attached to it so I emailed the Chair of the Fundraising Committee Dallas Dean to please have his committee put together that link for Peggy so she could have it the next time she had Chad send this email blast out to our members to make it easier for them to donate to. Dallas was able to have the link made and Peggy asked Chad to please make sure to verify the content of the future MailChimp Emails were approved by one of the District Officers next time. I also added this new ActBlue link to the "Mobilize Event" page once Peggy asked me to add it to both the website and other links so members could donate.
Sally Wagoner's April Communication Committee Report:
As discussed in the Communications Meeting, I will:
1. Seek out the virtual and hard copy news outlets for the following counties - Newaygo, Oceana, Mecosta, Isabella, Muskegon, Eaton, and Kent. Other info needed from all will be publishing dates, submission dates, how to submit (ie email to a contact person there, or via online submission form).
2. Articles can be written as “Press Releases” to most news outlets, and submissions would be free. These press releases can be for all county party and district meetings, events, speakers, etc. They usually like a photo to go with the press release. Human photos are most received and viewed - so a photo of the guest speaker, a photo of officers or members, or a meeting in action. People rather than things or just graphics.
3. Ads of course cost $$. Each news outlet has their own cost per size of ad, etc.
4. Some news outlets have free “Community Calendars” where organizations can post meeting announcements. Not all do, such as Newaygo County’s Hi-Lites Shopper will not allow political organizations to post on the free Calendar. Committee Members will need to ask if their assigned counties’ news outlets have free community calendars like this.
I will write a general "community calendar" statement that can be submitted in all newspapers that have one. An example would be:
"The 2nd CD Democratic Party meets every second Saturday of "month on Zoom from 10:00am-12:00pm. If you would like to participate or join the local democratic party near you, please contact the Chair of the 2nd CD, Mary Minnick at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you soon!"
5. I will write a press release for the May 13 Ice Cream Social.
I will need news outlet info for the Counties from the other Communication Team Members by Friday April 20, to make sure there is time to submit it to at least one news outlet in each county on time. I will send the article to each Committee member to submit to their news outlets. They will tweak the article as directed to state that the specific county of the news outlet is in the 2nd District.
6. I will write a press release for the other quarterly meetings as well: August 12, November 11. I will send them to the other Communications Committee member to submit to their assigned County news outlets.
7. It would be great if at least once a month we could send a template of a Letter to the Editor to all of our County Parties that focuses on a pertinent and timely subject. Frequent LTE in our local news would increase awareness of the Dems & their parties in our rural counties.
Thank you,
Sally Wagoner

April 4th 2nd CD Communication Committee Meeting – 5pm on Zoom.
A). Sally wants to get out the word on our "Branding":
◦ What type of branding do you want to do and where would you like us to send this message out to?
B). We need to get names of local newspapers in all 20 counties to develop the contacts that we need to help us get our information out to the public. To do this, we need the email addresses to the ad departments and any "community calendar" that they offer for free. Let's also see if they do re-occurring notices of our monthly meetings (since we meet every second Saturday at 10:00am-12:00pm on Zoom). The only notice that we have to call them back to list in the newspaper "calendar of events" would be our quarterly meetings in person and on zoom that are held on May 13th (Ice Cream Social), August 12th and November 11th. Each of these dates will have special guest speakers and some type of fundraiser event.
** Sally is going to write a general "community calendar" that can be used in all newspapers.
** Someone will need to writeup a script that can be placed in the newspaper quarterly about our in-person (and on zoom) meetings at the Wheatland Township Hall located at 201 S. Sheridan Ave. Remus, MI 49340 on May 13th (Ice Cream Social), August 12th (with event/time info TBD) and November 11th (with event/time info TBD) from 10:00am-12:00pm (unless the social event shorts this time).
**We need a "Letter to the Editor" written in all the 2nd CD Districts local newspapers written about our 2nd CD Congressman Candidate Michael Lynch. Date to be determined.
** Everyone on the committee will email Mary the newspaper names, emails and contact department head name to contact for placing ads. Mary will share all that information here under each "District's" county name (below) so it is easy to locate as we need it the next two years,
C). As you all know, the 2nd CD is made of 20 Counties. This is a daunting task to reach everyone of them but if we divide up the counties into 1/3's, it will make it all easier. The committee agreed today that these should work.
◦ District 1: Amanda's - Manistee, Wexford, Mason, Lake, Osceola.
◦ District 2: Sally's - Newaygo, Oceana, Mecosta, Isabella, Muskegon, Eaton, and Kent.
◦ District 3: Mary's - Gladwin, Gratiot, Montcalm, Ionia, Ottawa, Barry, Clare, and Midland.

April 4th 2nd CD Communication Committee Meeting – 5pm on Zoom.
A). Sally wants to get out the word on our "Branding":
◦ What type of branding do you want to do and where would you like us to send this message out to?
- Something that brings all voters from all parties together. Chadwick gave an example of the Blue Adirondack Chair and Red Adirondack Chair on the beach that he designed for the Newaygo County Democratic Party. It gives the impression that both sides of the isle can sit down together and relax while discussing the issues of the day. We will continue to discuss the branding for the 2nd CD that we can use in our newspaper ad's for our events we will be publishing and advertising. Chadwick said that he will work on some design ideas and bring them to us when he has them completed. I will share them here when he emails them to me.
