Call to Order – The meeting was called to order by Mary Minnick, Chair at 10:03 a.m.
Guest Speakers
Michael Lynch, Candidate for 2nd Congressional District.
Michael talked about his recent personal health episode and apologized to the Mason County Dems for having to miss their meeting because of it. He described the ramping up of his campaign with printing, distribution of printed materials, and FB pop-ups. Petitions for his candidacy would be available at the 2nd CD Blue Wave Gala on September 30th. Visit www.ElectMichaelLynch.com to make a donation.
Mary Minnick, Chair led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
In addition, Bradley Savage, Barry County, read the Land Acknowledgment Statement.

It was moved by Ed Miller, Mason County and seconded by Michael Lynch, Gratiot County to ACCEPT THE AGENDA AS PRESENTED. MOTION CARRIED.
There being no corrections to the Minutes of the Previous Meeting, the MINUTES WOULD STAND APPROVED.
Chair’s Report
Mary Minnick, Chair stated because of time constraints, her Chair’s Report which can be found on the 2nd Congressional District Website https://www.michigan2nddemocrats.com/.

Treasurer’s Report
Dallas Dean, Treasurer Newaygo County reported the balances of the Federal, State, Administrative, and Texas Hold ‘em Accounts. The State Account had a balance of $1727.86, the Administration Account had a balance of $227.49, the Federal Account had a balance of $6182.81 and the Texas Hold’em had a balance of $8,5876.20. It was moved by Ed Miller, Mason County and seconded by K.P. Mahoney, Muskegon County to: ACCEPT THE TREASURER’S REPORT AND PAY ALL BILLS. MOTION CARRIED. Dallas further noted we would not be holding a dinner next year, as we could meet the $2,000 non-gaming limit by having live auctions at each of the four in-person meetings of the 2nd CD.
Secretary’s Report
Peggy Raddatz, Secretary Manistee County stated she had received no correspondence.
Committee Reports
Rules and Bylaws Committee – Dallas Dean, Newaygo County, Committee Chair reviewed the proposed bylaw changes for the group. It was moved by K.P. Mahoney, Muskegon County and seconded by Ed Miller, Mason County TO PASS THE BYLAW CHANGES AS RECOMMENDED. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
Finance and Fundraising Committee – Dallas Dean, Newaygo County, Committee Chair talked about the Blue Wave Gala set for September 30th. Tickets have been mailed. To date, seventy-five tickets have been sold. Tickets will be available at the door.
Candidate Recruitment and Support Committee – Ed Miller, Mason County, Committee Chair reported he is meeting with John Helge, Manistee County to talk about recruiting local candidates
Political and 2nd CD Party Organizing Committee – Karen Turnbull, Gratiot County, Committee Member spoke of working with Tracy Busch of Osceola County who had mailed over two hundred and forty postcards to prospective Osceola Dems.
Communications Committee – Mary Minnick, Lake County, Committee Chair reported U.S. Senate Candidate, Pamela Pugh will speak at our November 11th in-person meeting at Wheatland Township Hall in Remus, MI. The guest speaker for February 10th, 2024 will be Leslie Love, Candidate for U.S. Senate.
Policy and Resolution Committee – There was no report at this time.
Audit Committee – There was no report at this time.
Unfinished Business –
Mary Minnick, Chair, Lake County asked the Treasurer if the Wheatland Township Hall had been procured for 2024 meeting dates. Dallas Dean, Treasurer needs to talk directly with the Wheatland Township Hall Secretary to get a firm contract before commitments could be made.
New Business –
EMAIL SCAM ALERT
Mary Minnick, Chair alerted all to an email scam where nefarious players try to get good-hearted people to buy gift cards and then read to them the numbers so they can gain the cash value for the cards.
COUNTY CHAIR REPORTS
Mary Minnick, Chair Lake County reminded everyone to check out the 2nd CD website for 2nd District County Chair Reports.
GOOD AND WELFARE –
Christine Bush, Barry County, requested the 2nd CD help advertise an event their County Party is sponsoring where two key people from OTTAWA OBJECTS will talk about the situation in Ottawa County. It will be either the 1st or 2nd Saturday in October and available across various mediums.
Ed Miller, Mason County, apologized in advance for missing the November 11th meeting. He is an elected School Board Member, and as such, his duties call him elsewhere.
Karen Turnbull, Mecosta County, noted John Moolenaar had distributed a letter implying Gotion would be turning everyone in the county communist and that Gotion was not paying enough. Their Democratic Party was trying to come up with a reply that cited Betsy DeVos’s brother, Erik Prince, was hiring Chinese nationals for the military.
Lynn Cavazos, Oceana County, informed the group of the successful Friend-Raiser with special speaker Dr. Rob Davidson. She encouraged all to call on Dr. Rob to be their speaker as he is so charismatic and dynamic.
Christine Bush, Barry County, reported she had been working with Christine Strickling, of Ionia County in regard to constitutional sheriffs. In coordination with the Michigan Democratic Party, they had developed a Google Form, titled DO YOU HAVE A CONSTITUTIONAL SHERIFF? This was circulated by the MDP to county chairs. Christine encouraged all chairs to fill it out so we would all know more about the issue, and could create a shared strategy to target messaging to combat the misinformation that is out there.
K.P. Mahoney, Muskegon County, invited all to the Muskegon County Party’s Annual Picnic September 17th from 1 until 5 pm. Speakers will be Hill Harper and Pamela Pugh, Candidates for U.S. Senate. It will be held at the Johnny Harris Park on Woodcliff in Muskegon.
Bradley Savage, Barry County, was looking for support from fellow members of the District about the Contest Every Race Training as he had gotten a late start. He was offered help from Lake, Oceana, Muskegon, Isabella, and Manistee Counties as well as, Jeff Winston, Project 83 as a contact.
K.P. Mahoney, Muskegon County asked if anyone wanted to provide an item for the Live Auction for the Blue Wave Gala to let Dallas Dean, [email protected] or K.P. Mahoney [email protected] know. If you do provide an item, please indicate the suggested starting bid.

It was the consensus of the group the meeting be adjourned. Mary Minnick, Chair declared the meeting adjourned at 11:10 pm.
