May 2024 Report from John Helge 2nd CD Committee Vice-Chairperson
April was a very busy month! I attended the MDP Rural Caucus Rural Summit held at Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire, MI April 12 &13, 2024. This was a very well planned and executed event that brought together over 250 Democrats from all parts of rural and urban Michigan to network, collaborate, and plan ways to get out the vote for Democratic candidates in rural Michigan in November. There were many breakout sessions that provided insights and ideas that attendees could take back to their towns and counties to engage more rural voters in a very positive way. The 2nd Congressional District was very well represented and recognized as a major supporter of the Summit.
It is now official that Michael Lynch has filed to defeat John Moolenaar and become the US Representative for the 2nd Congressional District in Michigan. Michael will need all our assistance to get his name and his campaign more recognition throughout this 20-county congressional district. Please make every effort to invite Michael to your towns to give him opportunities to meet voters and spread his message.
Speaking of MAGA Moolenaar, he lined right up like a good little boy with the MAGA extremists voting against aid to Ukraine. Moscow Moolenaar is obviously hoping he can get a position in the potential Putin regime if the orange puppet takes over in November. We must all work to defeat him and his far right whackos.
Finally, I regret that I cannot be with you in person for the May 11th convention, ice cream social fundraiser, and meeting. My wife and I will be on a Scandinavian cruise that we have had planned for over three years. I do hope that I can count on you all for your support in electing me as one of the male delegates from the Michigan Second District to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August.
